...Which one wins for you?
I try very hard to keep a healthy balance of the two, but it's super hard!
I'm talking to a good friend, and the subject comes up. A person she works with asked her on a date last night. They have been good friends as long as they've known each other, and recently she suspected he might want more than that. She made a plan - he asked her out, she said no. Simple plan. Unraveled plan. She voiced her concerns (dating a coworker, having to keep it secret, messing up a friendship), and he just asked her to think about it. So, of course, she has been.
I asked her if she is attracted to him and she said yes. And I know she likes spending time with him. To me, that only makes sense that they should at least try dating out & see what happens. To her, the fact that they work together and it's a "bad idea" outweighs any of that.
I decided it's probably better to be rational all the time than emotional all the time, but obviously neither one is going to be ideal...When should you let one or the other win?

The game of phone tag ended last night, and it ended with a bang. I had a 3 1/2 hour long phone conversation with Morning, and I enjoyed at least 3 hours of it. :D The last 30 minutes I was pretty much half asleep.
I was informed that my blasphemous ways (I've never seen a Star Wars movie) must soon be remedied, so besides the dive bar crawl I think we have tentative plans to hang out. That shall be the ultimate test. I will say that there are very few people I can talk to on the phone for that long, so maybe that's a good sign. At the least I feel like we could be extremely good friends. We talked a bit about coworker dating, and I feel like he was all over the map with that, so I don't know his stance for sure. I guess I'll find out!
Ultimately, I have decided that those numbers mean nothing to me. It's a conclusion I was pretty sure I would draw anyway, but it's official now.
He has decided that I need to watch Star Wars, several Star Wars spoofs/remakes, Harlem Nights, and Smallville.
I have decided that he needs to watch Pi, Requiem for a Dream, Planet Earth, and I'm trying to think of more... Suggestions?

I have a lot of goals I'd like to accomplish in 2009. What's going to be different than every other year is instead of being gung-ho in January and falling off the wagon by February, I am going to remember that I have an entire year in which to accomplish these things, and do it gradually.
So here are my goals:
1. Lose 30 pounds. That's basically been a goal for the past couple years that I've never accomplished. The main difference this year will be me living in my own house, and cooking only for myself and only what food I have purchased. I think this will make it all much easier. I'm going to slowly cut foods out of my diet. The first thing I'm quitting is chocolate. This should be easy since only recently have I developed any real affinity toward it. I'll allow myself some occasionally, but maybe only once a month or so. Then will be other sweets, then red meats, then fried food. Or at least that's the tentative plan.
2. Finish my online classes & get that degree! I just ordered a new calculator after mine going AWOL for several months. I think it will make it easier for me to buckle down and get these classes finished. Plus, I have to have them completed by April/May otherwise I have to re-enroll and take them all over!
3. Open myself up to the idea of dating. I've never been big on dating and/or relationships, but I think in its own way that makes me unapproachable. I don't want to be unapproachable, so I'm going to work on changing my anti-relationship attitude some.
4. Stick up for myself when I should. In some ways, I've got this on lock. If a rude stranger runs into me at the grocery store, I have no qualms calling them out. When people question my values or sensibility, I'll fight for them to the death. This is mainly in regards to close relationships I have where the other party tends to walk all over me or take me for granted. Instead of being bothered by it and pretending I'm not, I'm going to start (tactfully) asserting myself in the situations when I feel like this is the case.

That's right - Hues Corporation.
Mucho has happened since I last updated. My favorite IT guy was fired, for allegedly tampering with his timeclock records. Huge bummer. I now have no neighbor to throw food over the partition at me, or chat with about nerdy things. I am saddened by this. I hope he finds another job soon!
I have a second part time job online, but I will explain that in more detail some other day...
Last Thursday, Debbie & I got silly drunk with a group of Mexicans who were Bob's students. They were pretty fun, but I don't know that they much cared for me. Since I will never see them again, I don't particularly care. It was a good drunken time either way. Maple vodka is quite possibly the best invention ever. Although to be sure you will hear me refer to many 'best inventions ever'.
Friday I hung out with Mike & Jeremy, which was quite pleasant. Played some Madden XX for the first time, and it is possible that I now need an XBox 360. Whether or not that will happen remains to be seen. I bought the first season of In Living Color, and also Requiem for a Dream and Pi. That should keep me busy long enough to find a good new book to read. Anybody read a good book lately?
The fam & I went to Indy for Labor Day weekend, to spend the weekend on Heritage Lake with my aunt (Err..2nd cousin, or whatever she really is) and her fam. It was...interesting. Saturday I stayed back at the house with my...I guess 3rd cousin (this all gets confusing), and his wife. It was fun - we drank some beers, drunk dialed some people, "bonded", and all was good. Adrady ended up hanging out with us because the cousin that was her age was being a bit of a jackass. Which unfortunately continued throughout the weekend. Sunday & Monday during the day we just tooled around on the boat, resulting in me actually having a TANline! Holy crap! Sunday night we went to a bonfire. That was pretty much it. I got the impression we were cramping their style, which I find odd since a) they invited us, and b) we're pretty much awesome. What can you do, though, but live and learn?!
OMG, We're sooo excited!

...So as it turns out, not many people outside of Rolla seem to be familiar with the 'half your age plus seven' rule. I find this distressing since my current crush is 32, and people unaware of said rule seem to be uncomfortable by this age difference. It is completely legitimate for the time being, people! Hmmmph...
And I will leave you with this - a Freakshow we have been obsessed with for probably 6 or so months now, but has recently resurfaced in my life... Unfortunately I can not get it to embed correctly...
